Portable sparks controversy as he opines why the late Afrobeats legend Fela Kuti passed away.
Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has sparked online reactions with his remarks about the late Afrobeats legend Fela Kuti.
During an appearance on the “Echoo Room” podcast with Quincy Jonze, Portable suggested that Fela Kuti’s early death was due to his involvement in matters outside his personal life.
According to Portable, Fela might have lived longer if he had “minded his business” rather than fighting for Nigerians, whom Portable claims didn’t fight for themselves.
His comments have stirred significant attention on social media, where Fela Kuti is widely regarded as a hero for his activism and contribution to Nigerian society.
In the interview, Portable added his personal experiences, mentioning a misunderstanding with fellow Nigerian artists Davido and Zlatan Ibile, claiming that his falling out with Davido was influenced by Zlatan.
Portable’s bold statements, particularly about such a revered figure as Fela, have provoked mixed responses, with many fans expressing their disagreement and disappointment.
He said…
“According to what we were told, if Fela had minded his business a little he would have lived longer. But he was busy fighting for Nigerians wey no fight for their selves.
“I was in America looking for foreign artistes. I was busy displaying my madness online when Davido called me to come. Me and Davido did not quarrel until when the devil Zlatan came.”
