If I’m not given awards, I will buy them – Portable
The street pop phenomenon Portable has admitted that he won’t think twice about spending his money on awards.
Since becoming famous in 2021 with his track “Zazzu Zeh,” which featured Olamide and Poco Lee, Portable has frequently appeared in the media, particularly for its troubleshooting antics.
When speaking on the Honest Bunch Podcast, Portable said he wouldn’t think twice to buy them if he didn’t succeed in receiving a merit-based award.
For his single “Zazzu Zeh,” Portable received two nominations for the 2022 Headies: Rookie of the Year and Best Street Hop.
He would subsequently be disqualified from the awards for contravening the Headies code of conduct after he threatened fellow nominees and also physically assaulted DJ Chicken.
When questioned about awards, Portable responded that if he wasn’t handed any, he wouldn’t think twice about buying them.
“If dem no give me award, I go buy am…my music go give me money to buy award,” Portable says in Pidgin English.
Portable, who is still upset about his disqualification, claims that the brands that did not give him an award may contact him in the future to beg him to pay for prizes.
