Portable Remanded in Ilorin Correctional Centre After Failure to Meet Bail Conditions, Over-Defamation Case Involving Fuji Star Saheed Osupa

Controversial Nigerian singer Habeeb Okikiola Badmus, widely recognized as Portable, has been remanded at the Oke Kura Correctional Centre in Ilorin, Kwara State, after failing to satisfy the stringent bail conditions imposed by the Upper Area Court.
The street-hop artist, known for his hit “Zazoo Zeh,” appeared in court to face allegations of criminal defamation. While bail was granted at ₦1 million, the court demanded two sureties of equal amount.
One must be an executive member (chairman or secretary) of the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN), and the other must possess titled property in a Government Reserved Area (GRA) of Ilorin, with a valid Certificate of Occupancy (C of O).
Despite the bail approval, Portable was unable to meet these requirements immediately and was thus remanded in custody.
The case, officially registered as FIR 117(1) CPC, was initiated by the State Intelligence Department of the Nigeria Police, following a petition from fellow entertainer Okunola Saheed Osupa, popularly known as Osupa. The complaint stems from a live Instagram session Portable held on March 19, 2025, where he allegedly hurled defamatory remarks at Osupa.
In the controversial video, Portable accused Osupa of envy and sabotage, saying:
“This man dey try bring down my shine! He be like person wey dey chop snail with shell—him no get sense. Osupa na tortoise. When Apple Music and Spotify wan drop money for me, na him remove my song from platform make I no see money.”
According to Osupa, the remarks were not only slanderous but also incited public hostility and posed a threat to peace.
The police revealed that during questioning at the State Intelligence Department in Ilorin, Portable confessed to making the comments. He now faces multiple charges under the Penal Code, including Section 392 (Criminal Defamation), Section 114 (Inciting Disturbance), and Section 397 (Criminal Intimidation).
In addition, he’s being prosecuted under Sections 24(1)(b) and 24(2)(c) of the Cybercrimes Act, 2015, and Sections 10 and 13 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Law, 2020.
ASP Adeniyi James, the lead investigating police officer, confirmed that all charges were formally filed following directives from higher authorities.
Portable, hailing from Oke-Osa in Sango-Ota, Ogun State, remains in custody pending his fulfillment of the court-mandated bail conditions. The case has been adjourned, with the presiding judge emphasizing the importance of decorum and respect for the ongoing legal process.
