Portable shades Davido days after chilling together in USA (Video)
Street-hop artist Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, recently stirred controversy by publicly criticizing Afrobeats superstar Davido for allegedly giving him what he termed ‘bad advice‘ during a recent dinner in the United States.
Portable claimed that Davido, who himself has experience with international labels like Sony Music, advised him to sign with Empire instead of pursuing a similar path. He expressed dissatisfaction, arguing that joining Empire may not position him well for achieving a Grammy, an ambition he shares with Davido.
The Zazuu Zeh star contrasted Davido’s advice with the support he received from others in the industry. Portable praised Olamide and Skepta for their direct assistance, including gifts, collaborations, and connections with global fashion brands. He emphasized his preference for helpers who provide tangible support rather than mere words.
During an Instagram Live session, Portable voiced his discontent, stating, “You are signed to Sony Music, but you’re giving me bad advice in America to get signed to Empire and collect advance. The same Grammy you’re chasing is what I’m also chasing.”
This public spat highlights the complexities and rivalries within the music industry, particularly regarding career advice and personal ambitions. Portable’s comments have sparked discussions among fans and industry observers, underscoring the importance of mentorship and genuine support in navigating the competitive music business.
