Controversial Nigerian street-hop sensation Portable has finally spoken out regarding an old phone theft allegation that has trailed him since his early music days, offering what he describes as a long-overdue clarification of events.

In an official statement posted to his Instagram page on Sunday, July 20, 2025, and titled “Official Statement on Behalf of Portable,” the Zazoo Zeh crooner recounted the incident, linking it to his brief stint under Destiny Records, a label formerly owned by Ija Omode now Vice Chairman of the Ogun State chapter of the Union of Road Transport Workers (URTW).

According to Portable, the label had provided him with a phone meant strictly for professional use. However, after feeling neglected in terms of career growth and support, he chose to exit the label—an action that reportedly sparked a vengeful response.

He claimed that following his departure, individuals affiliated with the label seized the phone, accessed its contents without consent, and falsely accused him of theft.

The fallout, he said, turned violent, alleging he was physically assaulted, stripped, and publicly disgraced. The disturbing episode was recorded and later published online by media outlet Naijakit.

Portable expressed disappointment that even after attaining fame, no public apology or retraction has been issued by those who maligned his image, though he noted that some parties have privately reached out to make amends.

Describing the experience as a clear act of bullying and intimidation, he said, “This is not just about me. It’s about the way young talents are exploited and mistreated in the music industry.” He added that his intention is not to retaliate but to set the record straight and protect upcoming artists from similar mistreatment.

Concluding his statement, Portable made a passionate plea for fairness, honesty, and accountability in the entertainment industry. He also launched hashtags such as #JusticeForPortable and #EndLabelBullying to drive awareness and reform.

The post has since sparked heated conversations online, drawing empathy from fans and fueling wider discussions around artist welfare and exploitation behind the glitz and glam of fame.
