AMVCA 2025: “There’s a gang up against Ibrahim Chatta” – Portable

Controversial Nigerian singer Portable has sparked conversation once again—this time, calling out the organisers of the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) for allegedly overlooking veteran actor and producer Ibrahim Chatta.
Reacting to the recent awards ceremony, Portable expressed his disapproval over the outcome of the Best Lead Actor category, where Ibrahim Chatta was nominated for his role in House of GAA but ultimately lost to Femi Adebayo, who won for his performance in Seven Doors. Chioma Chukwuka also took home the award for Best Lead Actress at the event.
In an impassioned video posted on Instagram, Portable accused the Nigerian entertainment industry—Nollywood included—of operating through cliques and favoritism.
“There’s a gang-up in this industry,” he said. “Ibrahim Chatta gave a brilliant performance, yet they ignored him. Same way they snubbed me at The Headies.”
He went on to criticize the Nigerian award system at large, claiming that accolades are too often influenced by wealth or connections rather than pure talent.
“We don’t need awards. What we need is survival—food, money. Some people buy awards with their money, but real talent should speak for itself,” he added. “Ibrahim Chatta, even if they refuse to recognize you, God will. You’re a mentor to me.”
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time bias claims have surrounded Chatta. In 2023, the actor himself alleged he was being deliberately excluded from AMVCA recognition due to internal industry politics—comments that similarly stirred public debate.
