“They lied, I was in my house because I was sick” – Portable addresses being stopped from performing at Taye Currency’s concert in Ibadan
Nigerian street-pop star Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has broken his silence after reports emerged that he was barred from performing at Fuji maestro Taye Currency’s concert in Ibadan.
Portable, renowned for his electrifying performances and outspoken nature, took to social media to clarify the situation. His absence from the event sparked speculation, with many attributing it to his controversial comments about the city of Ibadan and its residents.
The singer previously made headlines last year when he publicly shared details of a failed relationship with his ex-girlfriend, Queen Dami. In the same instance, he criticized Ibadan residents, claiming they lacked modern housing features such as Plaster-of-Paris (POP) roofing, which he described as more common in Lagos and other cities.
In a video posted online, Portable refuted claims that he was stopped from performing due to his remarks. He explained that his absence was due to illness and expressed dissatisfaction with the payment he received for the show.
“They lied. I was in my house because I was under the weather. More so, they paid N1M instead of N5M. I will never go where I am not loved,” he stated.
Portable’s clarification has since sparked further discussions among fans, with many debating the circumstances surrounding his absence from the event.
