Portable arraigned in court over alleged assault on government officials

Popular but controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, widely known as Portable, has been brought before the Isabo High Court in Abeokuta, Ogun State, after finally surrendering to the police following weeks of evading arrest.
The embattled musician had been declared wanted by the Ogun State Police Command in connection with an alleged assault on officials of the Ogun State Town Planning Agency.
The incident reportedly occurred during an enforcement operation on his property in Ilogbo, leading to a police hunt for the singer.
Confirming his surrender, the spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, Omolola Odutola, stated: “The Ogun State Police Command wishes to inform the public that Habeeb Okikiola, also known as Portable, arrived at the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, at exactly 13:23 hours today, February 19, 2025.
His presence at the SCID is connected to an ongoing investigation. The command assures the public that due process will be followed in handling this matter, and updates will be provided as necessary.”
Prior to his arrest, Portable had been accused of physically assaulting three town planning officers—TPL Onabanjo Abidemi, TPL Raymond Lateef, and TPL Ridwan Oyero Akinlesi—while they were carrying out their official duties in Oke-Osa, Tigbo Ilu Ota, Ogun State.
The attack led the authorities to declare him wanted, but the singer reportedly went into hiding and denied any wrongdoing.
In a bid to avoid legal repercussions, the singer initially sought intervention from both the federal and Ogun State governments.
He also made claims that he was undergoing psychiatric treatment, a statement the police dismissed while insisting he must turn himself in for questioning.
After weeks of eluding the police, Portable hinted at his possible surrender in a social media post and later issued a public apology to the Ogun State government, attributing his disappearance to fear.
Now that he has been formally arraigned in court, legal proceedings will determine the next course of action regarding the assault allegations.
The police have reassured the public that they will ensure a fair process, with further updates expected as the case unfolds.
