Pogba promises to make critics ‘eat their words’
Paul Pogba has made a resolute promise to silence his critics and mount a comeback after a challenging second stint with Juventus, marred by injuries.
Pogba’s return to Juventus did not unfold as anticipated. The Frenchman had a limited role, featuring in just 10 matches for the Serie A side last season, largely due to a series of injuries. Despite these setbacks, the 30-year-old, who initially departed Manchester United before rejoining Juventus on a free transfer the previous summer, remains determined to reinvigorate his career and aims to prove his doubters wrong.
“I want to make them eat their words. … I want to show them I’m not weak. They can talk bad about me. I will never give up,” he told Al Jazeera.
Pogba added on the fickle nature of fans and pundits at the highest level of the game: “Football is very beautiful, but it’s cruel. People can forget you. You can do something great – the next day, you’re nobody.”
Paul Pogba, once the world’s most expensive player after his £89.3 million ($116.4 million) transfer from Juventus to Manchester United in 2016, currently stands at a pivotal juncture in his career. The French World Cup winner potentially has several more productive years in football ahead of him, but the crucial factor is maintaining his fitness, which has proven to be a significant challenge at the moment.
Both Juventus and Pogba are undoubtedly hoping that his recent fitness setback is not a severe one. Juventus is set to return to action against Lazio on Saturday, and Pogba’s availability will be closely monitored as he strives to overcome his injury woes.
