Erigga Hails Phyno as Nigerian Rap’s All-Time Greatest
Nigerian rapper Erigga has declared Phyno as the greatest Nigerian rapper of all time (GOAT), praising his ability to remain relevant across multiple eras of the Nigerian music scene.
In a recent interview with Echoo Room, Erigga shared the backstory behind their recent collaboration, “Up Iweka,” which he said stemmed from long-standing mutual respect and conversations:
“I have always wanted to do a song with Phyno… He would always say it was left to me.”
Erigga emphasized that he carefully chooses collaborators based on artistic synergy rather than hype, and found in Phyno a peer who has endured:
“I look at Phyno as someone who has been in the game and lived through different times. He is the GOAT… he is still relevant.”
Phyno, known for rapping in the Igbo language and blending indigenous sounds with mainstream hip-hop, has remained a powerful voice in Nigerian rap since his breakout, consistently evolving without compromising his cultural identity.
