Pep Guardiola confirms Ederson will NOT start FA Cup final as Stefan Ortega set to face Man United.
Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola has confirmed he will keep faith with goalkeeper Stefan Ortega in the FA Cup final against Manchester United.
Guardiola has announced that Ortega, who has participated in all of City’s tournament games, will start the FA Cup final. In addition, the coach declared that Jack Grealish and Kevin De Bruyne, who had been healing from minor injuries, were well enough to play at Wembley with a complete roster.
“Yeah he [Ortega] is going to play. It’s always been the same in the cups, even with Barcelona and Munich, so he’s going to play in the FA Cup,” Guardiola told a press conference on Friday.
On De Bruyne and Grealish, who missed the 1-0 defeat at Brentford, the coach added: “They trained well the last two training sessions. They are more or less fine.”
Throughout his career, Guardiola has often played his stand-in goalkeeper in domestic cup competitions, with Jose Manuel Pinto starting three Copa del Rey finals for him for Barcelona.
Zack Steffen had a terrible performance against Liverpool in the FA Cup semi-final last year after starting the game. Ederson did participate in the 2019 championship game against Watford, but he will sit on the sidelines on Saturday.
After playing United at Wembley in the hopes of winning both domestic championships, City travels to Istanbul to face Inter Milan in the Champions League final.
