Patoranking recounts how, at age 17, he gave up his dream of going to university for his family.
Nigerian dancehall singer, Patoranking has recounted his emotional story of how he had to give up on his education dream at the age of 17 for the sake of his family.
When Patoranking, then 17, was accepted to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) in Ghana, he was overjoyed. Little did he know, however, that he would not continue his education.
In a recent interview with Hitz FM, the hitmaker revealed that the first time he visited Ghana, he intended to attend school but his family was unable to afford the foreign student fee, which was charged in dollars.
Because his younger siblings were about to enter secondary school, Patoranking said that when he told his father about the admission, he did not react with excitement.
The financial strain would be too much for his father, unless his siblings put their studies on hold to help Patoranking.
“My son, I know this is what you want—to further your education at UCC, but you have siblings. It will be nice to have them have a taste of secondary education,” he recounted.
