Our Split Paved Way For Other Artists To Become Stars – P-Square.
Peter and Paul Okoye, twin brothers who make up P-Square, have claimed that their split helped other Nigerian artists to become successful.
In a recent episode of The 77 Podcast, where they discussed their music career and breakup, the Nigerian music duo PSquare made this assertion.
They said that if they had remained together, artists like Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, and others wouldn’t have dominated the Afrobeats music landscape.
The twin musical group said that from over 14 years until their temporary breakup in 2016, when other acts were given the opportunity to shine, they ruled the Nigerian and African music scenes.
Reacting to claims that Afrobeats gained global recognition when they were apart, Peter said, “Says who? They never said that.”
Paul added, “Let me tell you something, I’ve been hearing that. Even if they put it that way, it means some way God has his own way. If we were there [together in the music industry] those people [dominant music stars] there would have never been light for them. And don’t forget, we’ve dominated the [Nigerian] music industry for a long time. We held it down for nearly 13,14 years.”
