Due to an ankle injury, the German forward will not compete in the World Cup.
One of the highly anticipated Germany stars has been ruled out of the World Cup after sustaining an ankle injury. The player will not be representing his country at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar after sustaining an ankle injury in RB Leipzig’s win over Shakhtar Donetsk.
The 26-year-old was taken off as a substitute in the 16th minute of RB Leipzig’s 4-0 Champions League win over Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday, leading to fears his World Cup spot was in doubt with the tournament just over two weeks away.
And on Thursday, Leipzig confirmed the extent of Timo Werner’s injury in a statement.
It read: “Timo Werner suffered an ankle injury last night in the win over Shakhtar Donetsk.

After rejoining Leipzig from Chelsea this season, Werner had regained his form. Before getting hurt against Shakhtar, he had made 16 appearances, scored nine goals, and recorded four assists.
Werner has been a regular fixture in the German side since making his debut in 2017. The former Stuttgart man has won 55 caps for his country, scoring 24 goals, and was a part of the squads at both the 2018 World Cup and the 2020 European Championship.
