Nigerian music sensation Omah Lay has unveiled his vision to shape the future of Afrobeats through his innovative sound, which will be prominently featured in his upcoming sophomore album.
During an exclusive interview with Beat FM on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, the award-winning singer and one of the standout artists of 2023 highlighted a significant transformation in the Afrobeat genre.
Omah Lay confidently declared that the well-known sound associated with Afrobeat is poised for substantial changes in 2024 and the years to come. He disclosed that he is already introducing a fresh sound to Afrobeat, providing a glimpse of it in his recent hit single, ‘Holy Ghost.’ The artist also hinted that his forthcoming album, scheduled for release this year, will showcase a significant amount of this exciting new sound, delivering a refreshing vibe to his audience.
In his words, Omah Lay declared, “I have started a new sound, I feel like Afrobeat is going to, the sound people identify as afrobeat is going to change in 2024, 2025, in the future and I am going to be one of the leaders of the new sound. I have started a new sound of Afrobeat and you’re going to hear more of that in 2024. Holy Ghost is one of them and am putting out an album and the album is going to consist of all of this new vibe.”
