Afrobeats sensation Omah Lay has confidently proclaimed himself the best Nigerian musician of the past two decades, ahead of the release of his highly anticipated sophomore album, Clarity of Mind.

In an interview with Nandoleaks, the Port Harcourt-born star expressed frustration at constant comparisons within the Afrobeats scene. “I don’t want to brag too much, but I am the best at this… When it comes to art, like making music, I am the best of the last 20 years. Maybe the only person I sometimes put myself with is Burna Boy,” Omah Lay said, naming fellow superstar Burna Boy as his only contemporary worthy of comparison.

The upcoming album, which Omah Lay claims is the greatest Afrobeats album of all time, is described as a candid exploration of his life, including his mental health and personal experiences.
The title, Clarity of Mind, reflects the introspective and unfiltered nature of the project, promising fans a raw and honest look into the artist’s world.
Omah Lay’s journey to this release has not been without drama. Earlier in 2024, he revealed that he had to scrap the album entirely and start over after a respected artist allegedly appropriated a sound he had shared.
Following in the footsteps of his critically acclaimed debut, Boy Alone, Clarity of Mind is expected to blend vulnerability with musical brilliance, further cementing Omah Lay’s reputation as one of Nigeria’s leading contemporary artists.
