Tijjani Reijnders completes ‘dream’ £46m transfer to Man City from AC Milan as Pep Guardiola’s summer spending spree continues

Manchester City have officially confirmed the signing of Tijjani Reijnders from AC Milan for a reported fee of £46 million (€54m/$62m). The Netherlands international becomes City’s fourth summer signing, joining Rayan Ait-Nouri, Marcus Bettinelli, and Rayan Cherki at the Etihad as manager Pep Guardiola launches a summer rebuild.
Reijnders, recently named Serie A Midfielder of the Season for 2024-25, arrives as a direct reinforcement to City’s midfield following the departure of club legend Kevin De Bruyne.
The 25-year-old Dutchman brings a blend of elegance, control, and tactical awareness that has made him one of Europe’s most sought-after midfield talents.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Reijnders expressed his excitement about the move:
“I am ecstatic to be signing for Manchester City. City are one of the biggest teams in the world, with the best coach, world-class players, and outstanding facilities. It is a dream come true to play in the Premier League. This league has seen many of the best Dutch players perform through the years, and it’s an inspiration to follow in their footsteps.”
He added,
“Under Pep Guardiola, City have won so many titles, and I want to help keep that going with a lot more success in the coming years.”

City’s Director of Football, Hugo Viana, also praised the new signing:
“We are very happy that Tijjani has joined us, and we’re excited for him to join Pep’s squad. He brings extensive experience at the top level in Europe and with the Netherlands national team. Tijjani adds energy, composure, and creativity to our midfield, and we believe he will thrive under Pep’s guidance.”
The transfer comes as part of City’s response to a disappointing campaign last season and signals their intent to revamp key areas of the squad. Reijnders’ versatility and deep-lying playmaking abilities are expected to be central to Guardiola’s plans moving forward.
Reijnders could make his debut for City at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, where the Premier League champions begin their campaign against Wydad FC on June 18.
