Chelsea defender Reece James has confirmed he has not been picked for the England World Cup squad as he breaks silence on missing World Cup with England in a heart-breaking statement
Due to an injury, Reece James will be absent from the World Cup in Qatar. After discussions with Gareth Southgate on Tuesday, it was decided the Chelsea full-back has not recovered sufficiently from the knee injury he picked up against AC Milan last month.
In an effort to be fit for Qatar, James travelled to Dubai for a rigorous rehabilitation program. Recently, he had even been making some tentative strides at Chelsea’s Cobham training facility.
Gareth Southgate spoke with James on Tuesday; the right-back has not fully recovered from the knee injury he sustained while playing for Chelsea against AC Milan last month. Southgate did not want to take a chance by including James in his 26-man squad, which he will announce on Thursday at 2 pm.

In reaction, Reece James wrote an emotional post on social media after it was revealed that his injury would prevent him from competing for England in the World Cup.
James admits he is “devastated” after it was confirmed the Chelsea star would not be fit enough in time for England’s World Cup efforts.
The right-back penned a message on social media that read: “Devastated. “The minute I injured my knee, I knew the turn around to make the World Cup would be tight, but I always felt it was possible.
“I’ve worked harder than I ever thought I could to give myself the best chance of going and truly believed I could help the team. I appreciate there was a risk on both sides but it was one I was willing to take. Good luck to the boys. I’ll be back soon. Stay safe and sending love.”
