Conte to take charge of seventh different Italian club of his managerial career
Antonio Conte has been officially appointed as the new head coach of Napoli. The experienced Italian manager returns to his homeland just over a year after being sacked by Tottenham Hotspur.
This marks Conte’s first managerial role in Italy since 2021, when he left Inter Milan after securing their first Serie A title in 11 years.
Conte’s appointment comes amid speculation linking him to various top clubs, including Bayern Munich, Milan, and former club Chelsea. However, he has opted to take the helm at Napoli, expressing his excitement and commitment to the club’s growth in his statement:
“Napoli is a place of global importance. I am happy and excited at the idea of sitting on the blue bench. I can certainly promise one thing: I will do my utmost for the growth of the team and the club. My commitment, together with that of my staff, it will be total.”
Napoli, who won their first Scudetto in 23 years under Luciano Spalletti in 2023, struggled in the following season, finishing a disappointing tenth in Serie A after cycling through three different managers. The club now looks to Conte, joining his seventh Italian club, to revive their fortunes.
Conte’s tenure at Tottenham ended on a sour note in March 2023 after a string of poor results, including a Champions League exit to Milan and a draw against relegation-threatened Southampton.
His infamous tirade against Spurs’ players and owners marked his departure. Now, with Napoli, Conte aims to rebuild his reputation and lead the club to new heights.
Un nuovo capitolo della nostra Storia inizia oggi.
