Odumodublvck Shares Insight on Artist-Label Disputes

Award-winning rapper Odumodublvck recently shared his thoughts on the ongoing issues between artists and their record labels during an interview on ‘Hip TV.’

The rapper, known for his candid takes on various aspects of the music industry, highlighted the complexity of artist-label disputes, emphasizing that while artists are often seen as victims, they are not always without fault.

Odumodublvck acknowledged that these disputes are typically framed from two perspectives: the record label as an institution and the artist as a professional brand. However, he argued that the core of many conflicts lies between individuals, and human differences inevitably play a role when business relationships go awry.

“Once two individuals enter into business, the human traits to have issues due to differences is what leads to artist and label disputes,” OdumoduBlvck explained.

He added that while labels are often vilified in these situations, artists can sometimes be unreasonable, making demands that are difficult for the label to meet.

The rapper pointed out that some artists, after achieving fame, tend to forget the hard work and financial investments that their labels made to propel them to success. This shift in attitude, OdumoduBlvck said, can lead to unrealistic expectations and disagreements.

Despite acknowledging that artists can sometimes act out of line, OdumoduBlvck was quick to clarify that record labels are not exempt from blame.

He stated that accountability is key from both sides, stressing that “everybody must be accountable” in these conflicts. The rapper also noted that there are aspects of the dispute that artists often don’t reveal to the public, which can contribute to the misunderstanding.

Odumodublvck’s comments come in the wake of a highly publicized conflict between Dapper Music and its signees, Shallipopi and Muyeeez. The two artists recently terminated their contracts with the label, citing issues such as lack of financial transparency and unfair business practices.

Dapper Music has vehemently denied the allegations, adding another chapter to the ongoing saga of label-artist disputes that have become a recurring theme in the Nigerian music industry.

The rapper’s remarks have sparked a conversation about the need for transparency, mutual respect, and understanding in the relationships between record labels and their signees.

As the music industry continues to evolve, OdumoduBlvck’s insights serve as a reminder that both parties have a role to play in fostering a healthier and more sustainable business environment.
