Nigerian rapper Odumodublvck has stirred up fresh debate in the Afrobeats community after boldly declaring that the genre’s global dominance can no longer be defined by just three names.

In a viral video recorded inside a car on Sunday, October 19, 2025, the rapper confidently announced that Afrobeats has evolved into what he calls the “Big 7.”

“I’d like to make a case for the Big 3, I think it’s Big 7,” Odumodublvck said, naming Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy, Olamide, Tems, Rema, and Asake as the current powerhouses driving the movement.

For years, the phrase “Big 3” has been synonymous with Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy, three artists credited with taking Afrobeats to a global stage through record-breaking albums, sold-out arenas, and major international awards.

However, Odumodublvck’s updated list recognizes the influence of Olamide, a street-rap icon and mentor to several new acts, alongside next-generation stars like Tems, Rema, and Asake, whose rise has reshaped the sound and perception of African music worldwide.

Tems has become a global force with her Grammy win and chart-topping collaborations with international superstars, while Rema’s “Calm Down” continues to dominate global streaming charts. Asake, known for his Fuji-inspired Afrobeats blend, has equally made waves with back-to-back hits that have topped both local and international charts.

Odumodublvck’s remark has since ignited lively conversations across social media, with fans debating who truly deserves a place among the “Big 7.” Some hailed his observation as a reflection of Afrobeats’ growth, while others argued that the traditional “Big 3” still stand unchallenged.

Regardless of opinion, the rapper’s statement mirrors a broader truth Afrobeats has expanded beyond its original pillars, with multiple artists now shaping its global legacy and pushing the culture into new, uncharted territories.
