Odumodublvck has found himself in the middle of a heated online debate after comments from his recent BET interview were taken as a slight toward female artists.

In the now-viral clip, the rapper had been speaking passionately about his commitment to helping upcoming acts, especially women, without expecting anything in return. “I can help you without taking anything from you, same thing with the girls. I want to be able to give girls deals without having to compromise themselves,” he said, emphasizing his desire to create safer opportunities for female artists in the industry.

However, what stirred controversy was a part of the interview where he referenced his previous chart-topping collaborations. “The last time a Nigerian girl was number one on the chart, I think it was probably me. I’ve gone number one with two girls, Smur Lee and Bloody Civilian, and they were not A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H artists – they were Z artists. But yes, they went number one. That’s to show you that girls out there, you can do your thing without compromising,” he said.

The statement quickly triggered backlash, with fans and social media users accusing Odumodublvck of disrespecting the same female artists he claimed to uplift. Many felt his choice of words diminished their hard work and achievements.

Amid the growing criticism, Odumodublvck took to X (formerly Twitter) to set the record straight. He clarified that his use of the term “Z-list” was never meant as an insult but rather as a figure of speech to emphasize their underdog status.

In his words, “BLOODY IS NOT A Z LIST ARTIST. NEITHER ARE THE NAMES I CALLED. Z WAS JUST AN EXAGGERATION TO AMAZING FEMALE ARTISTS LIKE SMUR LEE, KENKÉ & VALENTINO, WHO ARE MAKING A NAME FOR THEMSELVES. – THE MACHINE.”

With that, the rapper attempted to calm the storm, insisting that he intended to celebrate, not belittle, the women making waves in Nigeria’s fast-growing music scene.
