Rema Honored by Oba of Benin: Receives Royal Plaque for Promoting Edo State.
Afrobeats star Rema has been honoured with a distinguished royal plaque by Oba Ewuare II, the Oba of Benin, acknowledging his exceptional contributions to promoting Edo State and the historic Benin Kingdom globally.
Rema was given the award during his visit to the Oba’s palace, ahead of his highly anticipated homecoming concert at Ogbe Stadium.
This royal recognition follows Rema’s involvement in the groundbreaking ceremony of the Edo Arena, where Governor Godwin Obaseki announced that the new 6,000-capacity venue would be named ‘Rema Dome‘ in appreciation of the artist’s influence in showcasing Edo State’s culture.
Rema, a native of Benin City, has always highlighted his Edo heritage through his music, playing a pivotal role in sharing the cultural heritage of the ancient Benin Kingdom both nationally and internationally.
His latest hit, “Benin Boys,” featuring fellow Edo artist Shallipopi, is a tribute to his hometown, further solidifying his connection to his roots and the royal honour bestowed upon him by the Oba.

In the video, shared by his record label, Mavin, Rema is seen sharing a heartfelt conversation with his mother during a lively evening gathering. The two were lost in their world, seemingly oblivious to the bustling surroundings. Rema, clearly moved by his mother’s presence, complimented her on her stunning attire, saying, “You look beautiful, I love your dress.”
