Here are the Nigerian Songs that crossed the 100 Million Mark on Spotify.
Love Nwantiti- Ckay
Love Nwantiti by CKay had gone viral on TikTok, a video production and sharing app, complete with a dance routine, catapulting him from a rising Nigerian star to a global sensation.
This ascent was made possible by the popularity of the video for the version with Kuami Eugene and Joeboy, and then the dance trend incorporating the song, which resulted in record-breaking figures for the song itself, with 15 billion views on the TikTok app and 400 million+ listens on Spotify.
The song is also the first Nigerian song to surpass 400 Million streams on Spotify.
Love Nwantiti remix- Ckay ft DJ Yo! & AX’EL
One of the most fascinating aspects of CKay’s global smash hit is that there are at least four different versions, all of which are performing insane numbers.
While Love Nwantiti was released in 2019, a slowed-down remix by Mauritius DJ Yo and AX’EL, which was uploaded on TikTok in 2021, was the first version of the song to go viral on the app.
It was, however, not only used by TikTokers on the app, but it also went on to become the most popular song in the globe, according to Shazam’s 2021 Global charts, with over 356 million streams on Spotify.
On the Low- Burna Boy
In 2019, Burna Boy was in his bag with his African Giant album that produced a lot of hits most especially “On the Low“. The song’s effects have remained new and evergreen to this day.
The sensations it produces from the time the beats start up and Burna Boy begins to croon over it have given the song a pathway to immense streams to the tune of 149 million-plus plays since it was released in 2019.
Ye- Burna Boy
Ye is the second Burna Boy song on the list, and he is the only African artist with two completely distinct songs with over 100 million Spotify streams, serving as a counter-argument to those who said the single only blew out because it shared the same name as a Kanye West song.
Ye, which was released in 2018, quickly become a cultural anthem due to its message and melodies. The Burna Boy song has 129 million views and counting.
Come Closer- Wizkid
Starboy Wizzy has been a global sensation for several years, but his single Come Closer, which featured Drake, cemented his status as a true global superstar, as he’d had a stellar run from Ojuelegba to the remix, and then the world-record-breaking One Dance, on which he’d been featured, before taking over the world with Come Closer. On Spotify, the smash tune has 120 million or more streams.
