The Nigerian music Industry had a terrific year in 2021, with mind-blowing and top-charting songs from both established and new musicians, remarkable collaborations amongst artists across the globe, and increased international recognition.

Some of the most successful songs not only have wonderful content, but they also have a good marketing plan for the songs, and some have already built anticipation for the release, which is why they are so popular.

However, there are a few standout releases that are underappreciated but excellent in every way, from the depth of the melody to the quality and flawless delivery.

They were hit songs at one point, but they didn’t receive nearly as much recognition as they deserved.

Here’s a look at some of the Nigerian Songs of 2021 that deserved better with the hopes of making them more memorable.

Very few artists have been able to capture listeners’ hearts in the very year of their debut the way Ayra Starr has done.

Mavin records launched her to the world in 2021 and immediately she had music listeners falling in love with her tenacity and voice.

While she has gained attention with songs like “Away”, ‘Bloody Samaritan”, “Sare“, “Fashion Killers“, one of her most underrated songs is “Beggie Beggie” which features Ckay.

The song is emotional and relatable as it highlights the story of a complicated relationship that first started as a friends with benefits situation.

She and Ckay sell the story with so much emotions that could put people in that same kind of situation reflecting on their life choices.

Oxlade is a great singer and has become one of the fast-rising new generation artists that top artists would feature on a song.

In 2021, he released an EP, “Eclipse” of which “Ojuju” is the lead track. Ojuju is simply a masquerade in various Nigerian dialects.

The song, which was produced by DJ Coublon, is an extraordinary work of ability by the singer, and he doesn’t seem to get enough credit for it.

    Gone Far- Zinoleesky

Zinoleesky is one of the few Nigerian artists that has mastered the trendy genre of Amapiano. “Gone Far” completes his trio of amapiano bangers in a row, with no misses.

‘Gone Far,’ which was produced by Timijay, was the singer’s second official single of 2021. It comes just a few months after the release of his hit single “Naira Marley.”

    Tonongo- Lojay, Sarz

    Lojay x Sarz – Tonongo

Lojay, one of 2021 breakout stars, collaborated with producer Sarz on this incredible and irresistible song. The song is claimed to be about Sarz recounting his experience of falling in love with a stripper.

The song encourages people to express their feelings regardless of the circumstances. This club-themed song is a well-executed piece of work by the duo, which has made many fans admire the duo even more than before.

Buju is 2021’s MVP artist as he was featured on some of the biggest songs of the year including Ladipoe’s “Feeling“. This is why fans were eager when he dropped his EP, “Sorry I’m Late“.

The EP was met with mixed reviews but the project had its gems. “Kilometer“, an amapiano styled tune sees Buju put his finesse to good use on the beat.

    Mosalado- Teni

The song has the three important things that make it a proper hit- Melody, Catchy lyrics and good vibes.

Despite all odds, Laycon has managed to establish himself in the Nigerian music industry, unlike his other BBNaija alumni.

He released his debut album, “Shall We Begin” and the project exceeded expectations. One of the bangers from the album which many people are yet to acknowledge is ‘verified” which features Mayorkun.

The song is pure chemistry between him and Mayorkun and the two bring the Lamba vibes to the forefront.
