Wealth, fame and luxury are all topics that come up while discussing the lives of celebrities. A few famous people, nevertheless, did not have it easy.
Are you aware that several famous people once worked as bus conductors? some music stars, such as “Ku Lo Sa” hitmaker Oxlade, and others, had to overcome several obstacles before becoming famous.
Small Doctor
Before Small Doctor rose to fame as a musician most known for penning the famous song “Penalty,” he had to work odd jobs on the streets in order to get by.
Small Doctor, the lead singer of the band Penalty, spoke candidly about his extensive experience as a bus conductor on a Channels Television episode of Rubbin Minds. He said:
“I was a conductor for years, almost a decade. From Agege to Ikeja, Ikeja to Maryland, Maryland to Yaba. I shuttled that place for like three to four years. I moved to Oshodi to Mushin under bridge. So it was from Oshodi to Mushin, Mushin to Oshodi I spent like six to seven years,” He told Ebuka during the interview.
Oxlade
In 2022, Oxlade who is one of Nigeria’s popular music stars had an interview where he opened u on his days as a Bus conductor.
According to the “Ku Lo Sa” crooner, apart from being a conductor, he used to sell brt tickets at barracks or at a cyber cafe to survive.
“I started hustling. In the hustling, I became a bus conductor. I used to sell BRT tickets at Barracks, Ojuelegba. I used to sell tickets at cyber cafe. So I would do selling tickets in the morning, and I would go to the cafe at night to sell more tickets just to eat.”
Gabriel Eziashi
Gabriel Eziashi, a gospel musician known for songs like My Praise and Aka ya Aka ya, disclosed that he was also a conductor at one point in his life. At a press conference held at the Eko Hotels, Gabriel revealed the details and stated:
“I remember being a bud conductor somewhere around here 16years ago and one day I couldn’t take the suffering anymore and so I walked into an incoming vehicle, but the driver was quick enough to stop. The driver simple said to me “if you want to die go to Jesus”. This marked the turning point for me”

Jude Okoye
Jude Okoye is a well-known music producer from Nigeria who excels at what he does. He did, however, recount the events that occurred during his first visit to Lagos.
He claimed that he spent his first four weeks in Lagos beneath the Ijora Bridge and that, as a result of his financial situation, he was forced to work as a bus conductor in order to make ends meet and continue his music career.
Posting a Monday Motivation to his Instagram, producer and manager Jude Okoye wrote about his first time coming to Lagos saying:
DID YOU KNOW….? My first 4 nights in Lagos in 1995 was spent under ijora bridge stranded cos of music hustle. Had to do conductor work route ijora – jibowu everyday to survive. #mondaymotivation
Alibaba
Alibaba is a very talented comedian who understands how to amuse his audience, but it might interest you to know that this young man was once a bus conductor in Delta state who struggled to make ends meet.
He did, however, admit in an interview with the Channels television network that he was previously a bus conductor, working from Ramah Park back to Ogbaazu in Delta state.
Joseph Benjamin
Star Nigerian actor Joseph Benjamin spoke candidly about his professional history in an interview with Wana Udobang on Inspiration FM’s programme “Talk About It.”
Joseph talking about his past said;
I’ve moved from being a bus conductor, security guard, waiter, worked in a Bakery, sold shoes at Balogun; then moved into IT before acting.
