Every year, former U.S. President Barack Obama shares his playlists featuring his favourite songs of that year and Nigerian artists have gradually been featuring on the list.

Obama’s lists come in two forms, his summer playlist; which is usually released during the month of August and his end-of-year list which is released at the end of the year in December.

Here are the Nigerian artists who have been a constant feature on Barack Obama’s Playlists.

Burna Boy will be the first Nigerian artist with the highest number of songs to have appeared on Obama’s playlist.

Burna Boy first featured on the playlist in 2019 with his hit song, “Anybody“, then in 2020 made it into the summer playlist thanks to the collaboration, “Be Honest” with Jorja Smith.

In 2022 his heartbreak hit, “Last Last” made it to the end-of-year playlist.

Whatever you think of the cute dimpled artist, he is definitely a favourite of Obama as he has appeared on the Former US President’s Summer playlist on several occasions.

In fact, he is one of the first Nigerian artists to ever feature on the Summer playlist and he did it the same year he made his debut in the Industry.

In 2019, his song, “Iron Man” was the lucky Nigerian song to be featured on the Summer playlist at Number 42 and the same song also appeared on the 2019’s End-of-year list.

In 2022, his hit song, “Calm Down” made it onto the end-of-year music playlist.

Wizkid is another favourite Nigerian musician of Obama, having appeared on his playlist twice in 2020.

In that year, Wizkid appeared on the summer playlist with his H.E.R-assisted “Smile” and in the end-of-year music playlist, his global hit song, “Essence” was the only Nigerian song to make the cut.
