While Nigerian music has received recognition abroad in the past, these occasions were typically brief and fueled by the ambition of the artists.
In recent times, the story has changed. Nigerian music has experienced tremendous success, topping international charts, selling out arenas abroad, winning numerous prestigious awards like the Grammys, and working with numerous foreign acts.
We acknowledge the efforts of Nigerian artists who are driving change in the Nigerian music scene, and we have compiled a list of Nigerian albums that have received certifications.

A Good Time- Davido
A Good Time is the second studio album by Nigerian singer Davido which was released on November 22, 2019. The album features guest appearances from Chris Brown, Summer Walker, Gunna, A Boogie wit da Hoodie, Dremo, Peruzzi, Popcaan, Zlatan, Yonda, Wurld and Naira Marley.
While the album didn’t score any major international certifications, it bagged a Platinum certification in South Africa.
African Giant- Burna Boy
Burna Boy released his fourth studio album, titled African Giant, on July 26, 2019.
Kel-P was the main producer, with contributions from Benjamz, Dre Skull, and Skrillex, among others. Jorja Smith, Jeremih, Damian Marley, Zlatan Ibile, Angelique Kidjo, Serani, M.anifest, YG, and Future all make guest appearances on the album.
It was supported by eight singles, including “On the Low,” which won Viewers’ Choice at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, and “Killin Dem,” which won Song of the Year at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, among other honors.
According to its Wikipedia page, the album currently has four certifications, all gold in Canada, the United Kingdom, France and Netherlands.
Made In Lagos- Wizkid
Wizkid’s fourth studio album, “Made in Lagos,” (MIL), was released by Starboy Entertainment and RCA Records on October 30, 2020.
Guests on the 14-rack project include Burna Boy, Skepta, H.E.R., Ella Mai, Tay Iwar, Projexx, Tems, and Terri.
Two years later, the extraordinary success of Wizkid’s fourth studio album “Made in Lagos” has yet to be matched. The album “Made In Lagos” has achieved both record sales and barrier-breaking feats.
Wizkid’s ‘Made In Lagos‘ is the only African album also to receive an RIAA certification after the album sold over 500,000 units in the US alone.
Prior to that the album sold 60,000 units thereby achieving silver status in the United Kingdom.
Twice as Tall- Burna Boy
Burna Boy released his fifth studio album, Twice as Tall, on August 14, 2020.
Additionally, it marks Burna Boy’s first Grammy win and second Grammy-nominated album.
In September 2020, “Twice as Tall” bagged silver certification in the Uk making him the first African artist to do so.

Raves and Roses- Rema
Rema is the latest artist on this list to have his project bag a certification. While Rema made his debut in the industry in 2019, it wasn’t until 2022 when he released his debut album, “Raves and Roses“. The 16-track project featured guest appearances from 6lack, Chris Brown, AJ Tracey, and Yseult.
