American rapper Nicki Minaj surprised and amused fans by responding to criticism in Pidgin English, embracing her Nigerian side on social media.

In a recent tweet, Minaj humorously remarked that “Nigeria won’t kill her” and used the popular phrase “Sabi girl no dey too like talk,” borrowed from Nigerian singer Ayra Starr’s song, to express her confidence and sass.

The tweet read: “LMFAOOOO. Nigeria will not end me o! Sabi girl no Dey too like talk. My words take the express elevator to the most high chi. I will show them pepper.”

Her use of Pidgin English sparked excitement among her Nigerian fans, who praised her for embracing the country’s culture and language.

The exchange started when Minaj shared her opinion about the National Football League’s decision to have Kendrick Lamar perform at the 2025 Super Bowl Halftime Show, suggesting that her mentor, Lil Wayne, would have been a better choice. Her playful response not only showcased her connection with Nigerian culture but also deepened her bond with her Nigerian fans.

When a Nigerian fan, @tyxhndrxx, playfully asked who had been teaching her Pidgin English, Nicki quickly responded, noting that she sees the Pidgin English Nigerians frequently use on her timeline.
