Neymar ruled out for remainder of season due to an ankle injury.
Neymar’s ankle injury is planned for surgery, and PSG has confirmed that he will likely miss the rest of the season as a result.
After the Brazilian sustained the injury in the 4-3 victory over Lille in February, manager Christophe Galtier had already stated that he would not be back for a while, but there was no set timetable for his recuperation from what was first believed to be a straightforward sprained ankle.
PSG has now acknowledged that Neymar will need surgery since the injury is more serious.
A club statement read: “Neymar Jr has had several episodes of right ankle instability in recent years. Following his last sprain contracted on February 20, the medical staff of Paris Saint-Germain recommended a ligament repair operation, in order to avoid a major risk of recurrence. All of the experts consulted confirmed this need.

“This surgery will be performed in the coming days at ASPETAR Hospital in Doha.
“A delay of three to four months is expected before his return to collective training.”
That puts a stop to Neymar’s outstanding individual season, which was cruelly disappointing. In 29 appearances across all competitions, the Brazilian piled up 18 goals and 17 assists, but it now seems unlikely that he will be able to add to those totals.
In Neymar’s absence, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe will continue to play at the top of PSG’s line, with youthful Hugo Ekitike still available.
It’s unknown what Neymar’s injury will mean for him in the long run. According to reports, PSG is willing to let the Brazilian go in the summer, and many Premier League teams have been made aware of his possible availability.
