Nasboi shares reason for not participating in nationwide protest
Nigerian skitmaker Nasboi has revealed the reason he and many other celebrities are refusing to join citizens in the nationwide protest.
Nasboi explained his stance in a now-deleted Twitter post, which sparked backlash. According to him, the last time he spoke up, he was threatened, and when he shared the threatening messages, netizens only laughed at him.
This experience strengthened his resolve to avoid speaking up about protests or politics.
He also clarified that celebrities do not get money from politics, as many people assume. In his words:
“Me, protest? Lol. The last time I spoke up, dem use threaten wan finish my life. I come tweeter come post the DM’s of threats, Na laugh people dey laugh for here. A lot of celebrities don’t get money off politics like you insinuate. Buh na just fear of being a scapegoat.”
In other news, Nasboi addressed the backlash he received following comments he made about Wizkid during a recent appearance on Cool FM, hosted by Big Brother Naija star Tacha.
During his appearance, Nasboi raised the question of why celebrities are often expected to refrain from voicing their opinions freely, contrasting this with the more relaxed social media banter that occurs among non-celebrities.
His remarks shed light on the double standard that celebrities sometimes face, where their ability to express opinions is restricted or scrutinized more closely compared to non-celebrities.
He said, “It’s like once you’re a celebrity, you do not have an opinion. But you, who is a normal guy on the street, you have an opinion. You can decide to say you love Wizkid over Davido and that’s okay. And me, who’s a normal guy who is a celebrity, shouldn’t have the same privilege?”
