Nadia Nakai reveals why she didn’t attend MMAs to support AKA
Nadia Nakai, the singer of “Naaa Mean,” explained why she skipped the Metro Music Awards for the sake of her deceased boyfriend, the brutally murdered rapper AKA.
Rapper AKA, who was assassinated, took home the top prize at the Metro FM Music Awards, which were held on; his girlfriend, rapper Nadia Nakai, claimed that the Forbes family had requested her to attend, but she felt it should be a special occasion for him and Megacy.
AKA, a rapper better known by his stage name Kiernan Jarryd Forbes, took home the most awards that evening at the 17th Metro FM Music Awards (MMAs). The murdered rapper received nominations in six categories and won four prizes.
The prizes were accepted on behalf of AKA by his daughter Kairo Forbes, whom he shares with DJ Zinhle, and by his parents Lynn and Tony Forbes. On February 10, the rapper was fatally murdered outside the Wish Restaurant on Florida Road in Durban.
As Kairo accepted one of her father’s prizes, she captivated people’s hearts by singing. Tony, the father of AKA, performed a freestyle while accepting one of his son’s prizes.
meanwhile, Lerato Kganyago and Katlego Maboe acted as hosts for the Metro FM Music Awards. The awards ceremony was held for the first time in five years following the scandal over alleged corruption.
Nadia was reportedly at home while the Forbes family and Kairo made headlines. She said on Twitter that she had been requested to accompany the Forbes family, but she felt that the occasion should have been between them and AKA’s supporters.
“They did ask me to come but I thought this moment should be just between them and the Megacy. I’m there in spirit tho. will be watching!” she tweeted.
