Temi Otedola Opens Up on Dropping Family Name After Marriage to Mr Eazi

Actress and entrepreneur Temi Otedola, daughter of billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, has addressed her decision to adopt her husband’s surname after marrying Afrobeats star Oluwatosin Oluwole Ajibade, popularly known as Mr Eazi.
Temi, who now officially goes by Temiloluwa Ajibade, revealed in an interview with BBC on Wednesday that the choice was entirely personal.
“I’m now a married woman, and the obvious thing for me was to take my husband’s name. But it’s my decision, and I respect that every woman has the right to choose,” she explained.
The move sparked online debate, with some critics claiming she had abandoned the powerful Otedola identity that has shaped her public image. But Temi insists the change reflects her own path as a woman, rather than a rejection of her family’s legacy.
She also shared that keeping her relationship largely private has allowed her to control her narrative.
“Moving in silence allows you to build your own story and share it when you’re ready.”
Temi further spoke about her father’s recently released memoir, which she believes captures the grit and resilience behind his decades-long entrepreneurial journey.
She recalled how his decision not to involve his children directly in his businesses forced them to chart their own careers.
“At first I was disappointed, but it turned out to be a blessing. It encouraged us to create our own way,” she said, adding that his perseverance during hard times remains her biggest inspiration.
Given her privileged background, Temi was equally candid.
“Oh, absolutely. You will never hear me deny it. It’s important for people born into privilege to acknowledge the advantage they’ve had,” she admitted.
With her new surname and outlook, Temi Ajibade seems determined to embrace her individuality—while honouring both the family she comes from and the one she has built.
