How Beenie Man, 2Baba inspired me – Mr Eazi
Renowned singer and entrepreneur Mr Eazi has shared insights into the origin of his popular catchphrase, “Zagadat,” attributing its creation to the influence of legendary singer 2BABA (formerly 2Face) and Jamaican dancehall star Beenie Man.
Mr Eazi revealed that the genesis of “Zagadat” can be traced back to the lyrics of 2Face’s ‘Nfana Ibaga’ remix, where Beenie Man prominently featured.
During an interview with Capital Xtra, UK, the artist clarified that he shouldn’t face copyright issues since he didn’t use the slang in the exact manner it was presented in the song. This revelation highlights the cross-cultural inspirations that contribute to the creation of unique elements in the music industry.
He said, “Big shout out to Beenie Man. Beenie Man and 2Face. I got my catchphrase ‘Zagadat’ from their song ‘Nfana Ibaga’ remix. From the part, ‘And the Lord said let there be light. Zagazaga za.’ That’s where it’s from, bro.
“I don’t have to give them royalties because I said, ‘Zagadat.’ I didn’t say, Zagagaza za.”
