Mohbad’s music has experienced a significant commercial resurgence following his passing, making him the most-streamed artist on YouTube Nigeria for the week of September 29 to October 5.
Mohbad, a talented Afrobeats artist, tragically passed away at the age of 27 on September 12, 2023. Since his untimely death, his music has seen a substantial surge in streaming numbers across Nigeria.
According to TurnTable Charts, the only aggregate chart system in Nigeria that compiles data from TV, radio, and streaming platforms, Mohbad achieved the highest number of streams on YouTube Nigeria during the tracking week of September 29 to October 5, with a total of 2.3 million views.

Since Mohbad’s passing, his music has experienced a resurgence as listeners revisit his songs. The Street Hop sensation was known for his unique blend of Juju, Hip Hop, Afrobeats, and Gospel music, which documented the realities of inner-city life.
His music, particularly from his EPs ‘Blessed‘ and ‘Light,’ has seen significant streaming numbers, with six of his songs making it onto the TurnTable Top 100 chart. His single ‘Ask About Me‘ even reached the number one spot on the chart.
Following his untimely death, tributes have poured in from both Nigeria and abroad. American rappers Meek Mill, Lil Durk, and Kodak Black paid their respects to the late artist.
In Nigeria, candlelight processions were held in honor of Mohbad in various states. In Lagos, a procession took place at the Muri Okunola Park and was attended by several artists, including Davido, Zlatan, Chike, Skales, and Falz.
Mohbad’s passing has also sparked public reaction and accusations of foul play. The Nigerian Police have initiated investigations to uncover the circumstances surrounding his demise.
