Mikel Arteta explains the weird analogy he offered Kai Havertz about his wife to assist the £65 million signing overcome his early Arsenal troubles.
With an odd analogy involving his wife, Mikel Arteta explained how he inspired Kai Havertz to keep going after his struggles at Arsenal.
Since moving to Arsenal from Chelsea in the summer, the international player from Germany has had difficulty. He has played for the Gunners in four Premier League games, however, he has yet to score.
Havertz had a chance to score his first Arsenal goal against Manchester United on Sunday, but he was unable to connect with the ball after getting a free shoot at goal from close range.
However, Mikel Arteta supported the new addition and shared their conversation, in which he attempted to motivate the German by using an odd comparison involving his wife.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Arteta said: “I said to Havertz: ‘Things are hard at the beginning. When I met my wife, at the beginning it was hard to conquer her. It was hard, I had to try and message her, and go, and go. And at the end when she says: ‘yes, we can be together…’ it’s beautiful’.”
The Gunners sealed a memorable 3-1 win over the Red Devils thanks to late goals from Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus. Earlier in the first half, Marcus Rashford had handed the visitors the lead before Martin Odegaard equalised.
On September 17, Everton will be the next opponent for Arteta’s team in a Premier League match.
