Michael Carrick takes his first football management position which is permanent.
Former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick has accepted his first permanent job in football management.
Everyone at Manchester United is wishing Michael Carrick well after he was appointed Middlesbrough’s new permanent manager today.
Michael Carrick replaces Chris Wilder, who was fired on October 3 after five defeats in the first 11 league games of the season. In the Sky Bet Championship, Middlesbrough sits just one point above the relegation zone.
Jonathan Woodgate will work alongside Carrick as the first-team coach, and another backroom hire is anticipated soon.
The 41-year-old enjoyed 12 seasons as a player at Old Trafford before embarking on a coaching career under Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. He later became Red Devils caretaker manager for three matches when he earned wins over Villarreal and Arsenal, plus a draw against Chelsea.

Carrick departed United in December of last year to spend time with his family and think about what he should do next in the sport to which he has given so much. Ten months later, at another club that has great meaning for him, he begins his first permanent management position.
“I’m really excited to be here and to be part of a club with such a deep history and tradition,” said Carrick in a statement on Boro’s website. “Middlesbrough was the first professional club I played for as a nine-year-old boy, so it’s a very special feeling to be back here as a head coach.
“Growing up in the north-east myself I’m fully aware of what football means to people here. It’s a real privilege for me to be in this position and to feel all the passion and enthusiasm you’ve got for the game and for Boro. I’ll give everything to help develop the team and keep moving the club forward and make you the supporters proud. I can’t wait to get started.”
