Scott McTominay reveals the crucial changes Erik ten Hag made for Man Utd ahead of Chelsea clash
Following Manchester United’s crucial victory against Chelsea, midfielder Scott McTominay shed light on how manager Erik ten Hag prepared the team for the match.
McTominay, who scored twice in the match, played a key role in Manchester United’s win, providing relief for Ten Hag amid criticism of his management and the team’s injury concerns this season. The Red Devils have faced challenges with injuries to key players, with some attributing the muscle issues to the intensity of Ten Hag’s training regimen.
After the game, McTominay disclosed that Ten Hag had adjusted the training approach, opting for a slightly lighter routine before the match against Chelsea. This tactical adjustment seemingly contributed to the team’s success on the pitch, showcasing Ten Hag’s adaptability and strategic decision-making.
McTominay told Amazon Prime: “What changed? The manager. The way we approached the game and some light training sessions to keep the energy high with a lot of games coming and keep the pressure on the teams above us”.
With United lacking a clear style of play, Ten Hag has been the subject of intense criticism lately. However, they produced a lot of opportunities against the Blues and looked like they were back to their best offensively. For the Dutchman, it was a game he had to win as the pressure has increased in recent weeks. Even though United were poor against Newcastle on Saturday, they have now won four of their last five Premier League games.
The Scottish midfielder and the Red Devils will now be in action on Saturday, December 9 when they take on Bournemouth in hope of breaking into the top four for the first time this season.
