Davido facilitated my Sony Music deal – Mayorkun

Afropop sensation Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, popularly known as Mayorkun, has opened up about the pivotal role Davido played in helping him land a new deal with Sony Music Africa.
Speaking in a recent interview with 3Music TV, Mayorkun, who rose to fame under Davido’s DMW imprint, expressed deep appreciation for his former label boss. “Aside from running my own label now, I’m also signed with Sony Africa,” he revealed. “Big shout out to Davido, he facilitated that deal.”
While Mayorkun didn’t go into specifics about Davido’s involvement, his comments underscored the ongoing support he receives from the Unavailable hitmaker, even after exiting Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) in 2021.
The singer also used the interview to confirm that his highly anticipated third studio album, Still The Mayor, is set for release on June 13, 2025.

Reflecting on the project, he described it as his “most difficult album to complete,” citing delays caused by clearance issues and strict label protocols.
“This album isn’t about proving anything,” he said. “It’s a continuation of my story. The title, Still The Mayor, is bold—it raises questions, and that’s what I wanted.”
He continued, “It’s been tough. Every time we fixed a release date, something would come up. The music industry has changed—clearances take time, and my label insists on doing everything the proper way. But it’s finally ready. We just wanted to avoid unnecessary issues.”
Mayorkun released his debut album, The Mayor of Lagos, in 2018, followed by Back in Office in 2021 under Sony Music West Africa. Still The Mayor marks a new chapter in his journey—one that blends independence with global partnership and the continued mentorship of Afrobeats icon Davido.
