Mayorkun celebrates Davido’s impact on his career as he marks 9 years since his debut

Nigerian music star Adewale Mayowa Emmanuel, famously known as Mayorkun, has taken a moment to honor his roots and express deep gratitude to Davido as he celebrates the 9th anniversary of his breakthrough single, “Eleko.”
In a touching tribute shared on social media, the Certified Loner (No Competition) hitmaker posted the original cover art of Eleko. This song introduced him to the world back in 2016. Alongside the image, Mayorkun wrote, “Thank you for all,” directing the heartfelt message to Davido — the man who believed in him when the world didn’t know his name.
So crazy, I dropped my first single 9 years ago and nothing ever remained the same!
Shoutout to @davido for the opportunity.

Signed to Davido Music Worldwide (DMW) at the time, Eleko marked the beginning of an impressive journey for Mayorkun. The singer has often spoken fondly about the pivotal role Davido played in shaping his career, even revealing that he lived with the Afrobeats icon for three years — an experience that helped mold his artistry and confidence.
Now affiliated with Olamide’s YBNL, Mayorkun continues to flourish as a solo act, but the respect and admiration he holds for Davido remain unchanged. Their relationship has transcended label affiliations, with Davido consistently showing love and support for his former signee’s endeavors.
This anniversary post isn’t just a nod to the past — it’s a powerful reminder of how mentorship, belief, and opportunity can change the trajectory of an artist’s life. And in Davido’s case, it’s yet another testament to his legacy of lifting others as he rises.
