Afrobeats sensation Mayorkun has sparked discussions about leaving Nigeria, citing the country’s increasing hardships as a major concern.

The Mayor of Lagos hitmaker, whose real name is Emmanuel Adewale, took to his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday to share his thoughts, simply stating, “I dey reason to japa”—a Nigerian slang meaning “I’m considering relocating.”
His post quickly ignited conversations among fans and social media users, reigniting debates on the growing trend of Nigerian celebrities moving abroad in search of better opportunities.
Over the years, entertainment icons such as Banky W, Tacha, eLDee, Dr. Sid, Genevieve Nnaji, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, Rita Dominic, Uche Jombo, and Emeka Ike have chosen to settle overseas for various reasons.
While Mayorkun has not confirmed any concrete plans to relocate, his statement reflects a broader reality for many Nigerian entertainers seeking stability and opportunities beyond the country’s borders.
