Nigerian singer Akinmayokun Awodumila, popularly known as May D, has escaped serious harm following a road accident in Abuja.

The singer broke the news himself via his Instagram story, sharing images of an overturned vehicle and explaining what led to the crash. According to him, the accident happened after his driver reportedly fell asleep while driving.

“My driver slept off. Thank God for life. This was Abuja yesterday,” May D wrote alongside the photos.

The incident has since sparked concern among fans, many of whom took to social media to express relief that the singer came out alive.

May D rose to fame in the early 2010s and remains best known for a string of hit songs that dominated clubs and airwaves at the time. His 2013 breakout single, Soundtrack, quickly became a fan favourite, followed by other popular tracks such as Ile Ijo and So Many Tinz.

He also gained widespread attention after featuring on Chop My Money, a P-Square hit that included American singer Akon and enjoyed massive rotation across Africa and beyond.

Before launching his solo career, May D was signed to Square Records, the now-defunct label owned by twin brothers Peter and Paul Okoye of P-Square, alongside their elder brother, Jude Okoye.

At the time, the label ranked among the most influential in the Nigerian music industry, riding on P-Square’s continental success while introducing new talents to the mainstream.

Thankfully, May D’s post suggests he is safe, with no serious injuries reported.
