‘I was once bigger than Wizkid and Davido’ – May D claims
Nigerian singer May D recently revisited the peak of his career, claiming that during his prime, he was bigger than music heavyweights Wizkid and Davido.
The singer made this statement during an appearance on the ‘Honest Bunch Podcast,’ where he shared insights into his musical journey and the challenges he faced.
May D recalled that his 2011 hit single ‘Soundtrack‘ outshone Wizkid’s ‘Holla At Your Boy,’ a track widely regarded as one of the year’s biggest hits. “Back then, it was Wiz, David, and I. I even like was bigger,” he stated, underscoring the impact of his hit song at the time.

During the podcast, May D reminisced about his relationship with Davido. He shared an anecdote about attempting to house the singer when Davido’s father initially banned him from pursuing music.
However, Davido couldn’t stay with May D due to his then-humble living conditions in P-Square’s boys’ quarters.
May D revealed that his association with P-Square began in 2008, leading to collaborations on notable tracks like ‘Chop My Money‘ and ‘Do As I Do’ featuring Tiwa Savage. These songs were part of P-Square’s 2011 album, *Invasion*.
According to May D, P-Square didn’t attempt to sign him to their Square Records label until 2011 after he featured on their hit single ‘Chop My Money.‘ Despite this opportunity, negotiations fell apart when he requested clarifications regarding compensation for his previous contributions and matters related to his accommodations.
May D recounted that following his refusal to sign the contract with Square Records, he was asked to leave P-Square’s mansion. He later established his label, Confam Records. Despite the fallout, May D described P-Square as “amazing people” and maintained a favourable view of the duo.
During the podcast, May D disclosed that after meeting Akon during the video shoot for the “Chop My Money (Remix),” the international star expressed interest in signing him. However, he alleged that the contract offered by P-Square at the time ultimately prevented him from pursuing the deal with Akon.
May D addressed past claims that he could have been bigger than Wizkid, explaining that his comments were a reaction to online bullying from Wizkid’s fans. He also hinted at new music coming in 2025, reassuring fans of his continued presence in the industry.
