Mavin Records commemorates 12 years of influence in the Nigerian music industry
Today, May 8, 2024, Mavin Records celebrates 12 years as one of Africa’s most influential entertainment companies, marking the anniversary of legendary music producer Don Jazzy’s introduction of the world to Mavin Records.
From Mavin’s humble beginnings to its significant impact on the global music scene, the label has played a pivotal role in shaping Afrobeats as both an industry and a genre.
Established in 2012 by Don Jazzy, Mavin Records quickly became a beacon of creativity and talent in the African music landscape. Drawing inspiration from the legacy of the now-defunct Mo Hits Records, Don Jazzy’s forward-thinking vision propelled Mavin Records to unprecedented success.

Throughout its 12-year journey, Mavin Records has provided a nurturing environment for some of Afrobeats’ most iconic artists, producers, and industry professionals. From early stars like Tiwa Savage, Wande Coal, and Korede Bello, to current talents such as Rema, Ayra Starr, Ladipoe, Johnny Drille, Crayon, Bayanni, Boy Spyce, Lifesize Teddy, and DJ Big N, the label has consistently showcased its ability to identify and cultivate exceptional talent.
In a commitment to inclusivity and supporting diverse creative expressions, Mavin Records expanded its roster in 2022 to include producers Andre Vibez, Jvxn, Prestige, and Sevn, as well as songwriters Mbryo and Milar.
Additionally, the label remains dedicated to nurturing the next generation of industry leaders through initiatives like the Mavin Future Five program, offering aspiring music professionals valuable hands-on experience and mentorship opportunities.
As Mavin Records continues to lead the charge in shaping the present and future of the music industry, its legacy as a driving force in Afrobeats remains unparalleled.
Label Founder, Don Jazzy is reflective in his comment; “It is a landmark year in so many ways. We are grateful to everyone who has been instrumental in our success in the past 12 years. We are building a legacy together- for Nigeria, for Africa, and the global music community.”
Chief Operating Officer Tega Oghenejobo adds; ‘’We are proud of what we have accomplished so far as a team but we remain ambitious still. There is more work to be done as we break more talents, expand to more territories, and contribute our quota to the development of Africa and her extremely talented human capital’’.
As Mavin Records commemorates its 12th anniversary, the label remains at the forefront of creativity and excellence. Recently, Universal Music, the largest music label globally, acquired a majority stake in Mavin Records in a multi-million dollar deal, solidifying the company’s position as Nigeria’s premier record label. This strategic partnership underscores Mavin’s enduring impact and marks a significant milestone in its journey toward even greater achievements in the music industry.
