Man Utd complete £62.5m Matheus Cunha transfer on five-year contract as Red Devils make ‘dream a reality’ for Brazil international forward

Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha has officially joined Manchester United in a deal worth £62.5 million ($85 million), completing one of the summer’s early blockbuster transfers.
The 26-year-old attacker has signed a long-term contract that will keep him at Old Trafford until the summer of 2030, with an option to extend for an additional year. His arrival comes as part of United’s early push to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new campaign.
Cunha, who has long admired Manchester United from afar, expressed his deep emotional connection to the club after finalising his move.
“It is hard to put into words my feelings about becoming a Manchester United player,” Cunha told the club’s official website. “Ever since I was a child in Brazil watching Premier League games on TV at my grandmother’s house, United was my favourite English team and I dreamed of wearing the red shirt. I want to thank my family and everyone who has helped me make that dream a reality.
I can’t wait for the start of pre-season to get to know my team-mates and prepare for the season ahead. All my focus is now on working hard to become a valuable part of the team, and helping get this club back to the top.”

Jason Wilcox, Manchester United’s director of football, noted that the signing of Cunha was a top priority for the Red Devils this transfer window.
“Bringing in Matheus was one of our main priorities for this summer, so we are delighted to have completed his signing so early in the window,” Wilcox said.
“He has proved his ability to succeed in the Premier League as one of the most exciting and productive forwards in England during his time at Wolves, and, before that, in Spain and Germany. He has all the qualities we are looking for as we seek to build a strong, dynamic and entertaining team capable of challenging for the biggest honours.”

Cunha arrives with a wealth of experience from Europe’s top leagues. After making his mark at Swiss side FC Sion, he featured for RB Leipzig and Hertha Berlin in the Bundesliga, before joining Atletico Madrid in Spain.
He moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2023 and quickly established himself as a key figure at Molineux, registering 33 goals in 92 appearances. The Brazil international also boasts an Olympic gold medal from the Tokyo 2020 Games.
As Manchester United aim to return to their former glory, fans will be watching closely to see how Cunha adapts to life in red, with expectations already building ahead of the new season.
