Mason Greenwood has been signed by Getafe in a last-minute transfer deadline day action.
In a surprising move for the 21-year-old, Greenwood leaves the Premier League team and signs a season-long contract with Getafe.
Following an internal review, United recently declared their intention to terminate Greenwood’s contract.
United has suspended Greenwood since January 2022 as a result of the England international’s arrest and subsequent charges of attempted rape and assault against a female.

In February, the Crown Prosecution Service made the decision to withdraw the charges against Greenwood.
Given that Greenwood’s contract was up in 2025, United may have decided to release him in exchange for a monetary settlement.
The choice of a financial arrangement with United is put off by a loan to Getafe, and the Spanish team will pay a portion of his salary.
“The move enables Greenwood to begin to rebuild his career away from Manchester United,” the Premier League club said.
“The club will continue to offer its support to Mason and his family during this period of transition.”
This weekend, Getafe will travel to Real Madrid in the capital of Spain, and head coach Jose Bordalas will undoubtedly come under fire for his selection of Greenwood.
