Marcus Rashford confirms reason for controversial Man Utd goal celebration in strong response to ‘why does he seem upset’ jibe from Roy Keane.
Marcus Rashford has clarified the controversial goal celebration he used after scoring for Manchester United in their 2-2 draw against Tottenham.
The English forward’s goal in that match was his first at Old Trafford in the 2023–24 Premier League season. Rashford, who scored 30 goals across all competitions last season, has faced scrutiny this season for his lack of consistent output despite signing a lucrative new contract.
After scoring against Tottenham, Rashford celebrated by making mouth movements with his hand, indicating that some people talk too much. This celebration was seen as a response to the questions and criticisms surrounding his performances. The clarification comes in response to comments made by former Manchester United captain Roy Keane, who criticized Rashford’s celebration.
Former United captain Keane, who was on Sky Sports punditry duty, said of Rashford’s celebration: “I don’t know what that is all about. We need to see more; he’s shown it before, and he’s got the quality. Why does he seem to be upset with everybody? He’s got to go and enjoy it he’s playing for Man United.”
A Red Devils supporter has attempted to shed light on why Rashford may be eager to make a point to his detractors, with more questions being asked after he wished Jadon Sancho well during a loan spell at Borussia Dortmund, and a post on social media read: “He’s clearly referring to the abuse he’s been subjected to this week since he commented on Sancho’s post. They literally questioned his loyalty and commitment to us, and he did shut them up by scoring AND assisting. If he didn’t score, he’s sh*te, if he does it’s this BS smh.” Rashford responded to that message by saying: “Thank you for clarifying this matter.”
Thank you for clarifying this matter.

From now on, Rashford hopes to let his play speak for itself. Against Spurs, the 26-year-old showed that, given the right circumstances, he can be a lethal finisher in the last third of the field. United’s next game is scheduled for January 28, when they play either Newport County or Eastleigh in the FA Cup fourth round.
