Manchester United’s players believe Greenwood deserves a second chance and would welcome him back
According to reports, Manchester United’s players are in favor of the return of Mason Greenwood to the squad.
The club has been conducting an internal investigation for the past six months following the Crown Prosecution Service’s decision to drop charges of attempted rape and assault against the 21-year-old at the beginning of February.
Greenwood has been suspended by the club for the last 18 months, starting from January 2022, which has prevented him from playing for Manchester United or training with his fellow teammates at Carrington.
However, a recent report by The Sun suggests that his teammates are supportive of his potential return to training.
‘All the players believe he deserves a second chance because he’s innocent in the eyes of the law.
‘He didn’t have the opportunity to clear his name in court because the charges were dropped, so the players feel like he has been left in limbo.
‘They know it will be difficult but they are willing to support him through it, and protect him.’
The source further disclosed to The Sun that the players’ support for Mason Greenwood stems from a sense of “loyalty” they feel towards him.
‘Some of the younger players came through the academy with him so there’s a loyalty to him,’ they continued.
‘They know he’s made mistakes but the lads who’ve spoken to him say he’s grown up a lot in the past 18 months and will come back a lot wiser.’
This demonstrates a show of solidarity within the team and a willingness to welcome Greenwood back into the fold should the investigation conclude in his favor. The young forward’s return could be a significant boost for Manchester United as they look to compete in various competitions.
