Manchester United launch 2023/24 home kit.
Manchester United has revealed their new Adidas home kit for the 2023/24 season, which features the distinctive red rose and is inspired by the city’s industrial past.
The geometric design on the red base color of the rose, which is made entirely of recycled materials, was inspired by the bridge that spans the River Irwell to connect Manchester and Salford. The bridge continues to serve as a “enduring symbol” of the close ties to an industrial past.
Sportswear giant adidas say: “This new kit taps into the cultural identity of the city – and its rich heritage – whilst also encapsulating the fans’ undying commitment and love for the club. It is a statement in the club’s timeless belief to succeed, forever and ever.”
Originally the badge adopted by the ruling House of Lancaster in the middle ages, the red rose has since come to symbolise Lancashire and has remained synonymous with Manchester long after the historic county boundaries were redrawn.
United used a red rose logo on their shirts as far back as the 1909 FA Cup final when the club lifted the famous trophy for the first time. More recently, it formed part of an all-over abstract graphic that featured on the 2019/20 black third kit, also designed by adidas.
From the streets of Manchester, we rose 🌹
