Manchester United Confirm the Jersey Number of Wout Weghorst.
Manchester United has revealed the jersey number of its latest signing, Wout Weghorst from Besiktas.
The striker’s loan at Besiktas was terminated on Friday by mutual arrangement, and he now joins Old Trafford for the rest of the season. Due to Burnley’s refusal to include a recall clause in his season-long trade agreement, United has paid the Turkish team £2.6 million in compensation via Burnley, the player’s parent club.
At the end of the season, United does not have a buy option. After scoring just twice in 20 Premier League appearances for Burnley the previous season, Weghorst scored nine goals in 18 games with Besiktas. His two comeback goals for the Netherlands against Argentina in the World Cup quarterfinal last month are well-known.
The attacker joined the team at 9 p.m. on Friday and will remain there for the next four months of the campaign, where he will wear the number 27 shirt for the club.
Marouane Fellaini and Alex Telles, among others, have worn the outfit in the past. Weghorst, who wore No. 28 throughout his first two seasons with Emmen, will be wearing No. 27 for the first time in his career.

Speaking upon signing for United, Weghorst said: “I feel privileged to be joining Manchester United. I’ve played against the club in the past and it’s a fantastic feeling to now have the chance to pull on the famous red shirt.
“I’ve seen United’s progress under Erik ten Hag this season and can’t wait to start playing my part in pushing the team towards its aims. Whatever happens in the next few months, I can promise to give everything to the club for as long as I am here.
“I thank everyone who has played a part in getting me to this stage, and now I am looking forward to meeting my new team-mates and getting involved straight away.”
John Murtough, Manchester United football director, added: ‘‘Wout has a consistent goalscoring record across several European leagues, and his attributes will add a further dimension to our squad for the remainder of the season.
“We were also attracted by his strong personality and dedicated approach to football, which fits perfectly with the spirit that Erik is building within our squad. He has shown a huge desire to join Manchester United and be part of what we’re striving to achieve this season.”
Weghorst scored 70 goals in 144 games for German club Wolfsburg before moving to Burnley in January of last year. In 19 appearances for his nation, the Dutchman has also scored five goals.
